(Below in English)

USIA …

INVITATION TO USIA - MATCH, a race rowing in disguise…

USIA … “who did you say”?
… a rowing race in disguise, the adventure of a Persian prince, a secret medal and a lot of fun in KVIK.
Read more here, set a rowing team for a 4-year-old inrigger and let's warm up together for this year's Rabbit Party 🙃🥳🤩😎.
The USIA match is back!💪😅

Saturday 23 August  - start at 15.00 from the bridge at the Svanemøllestranden (the Pier at the beach).

We celebrate our Rabbits party with a completely different race rowing.

The race rowing rules

  • Everyone can participate!
  • Set up a boat team - a 4 oars inrigger. Registration in the comments field below.
  • The rowing lane is on the stretch along Svanemøllebugten (in the bay)
  • Ordinary rowing on the way out and reverse rowing (”skodning” on the way back
  • All teams must be dressed up to participate.
  • Boats are allocated by drawing lots.

The USIAs are elected

After the match itself, a winning boat is chosen by a competent judging panel consisting of usia brothers.

What counts is the combination of disguise, racerowings tactics and perhaps charm.

The winning team is rewarded with a USIA-pin and the amazing drink from the USIA bowl.

USIA history

  • Usia was reportedly a Persian prince - "a very decent guy with a distinct sense of conviviality".
  • The Usia brothers had strange customs. Among other things. it was associated with the 'death penalty', to have a long beard
  • The Usia brothers had to wear a small emblem with a 1-øre coin on the back, because as it was called: "usias must never be without a coin on them".
  • The Usia brothers are the only ones who can demand to see another 'brother''s emblem. And if the 'brother' can not show it, it costs him a beer. The emblem is always worn hidden.
  • When a Usia gets married, the emblem must be handed over until after the wedding. Solely to make sure he does not spend 'every penny (øre)' on the wedding.
  • The Usia bowl (a bowl and KVIK’s baptismal font when we get new boats) originates from this tradition.
  • The first women's team participated in the USIA match in 1975, however not as part of the competition. they were allowed to participate in the rowing …
